A Thanksgiving Song

This easily remembered Harvest/ Thanksgiving song is sung to the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know it”.  It has 6 verses, going through the range of foods that we can give thanks for, and ending with thanks for family and friends.

but please be forgiving; it’s just to give you an idea.  I’m the first to admit that the children will perform it much better!

(Sung to the tune of
“If you’re happy and you know it, say we are”)

For our cereals and grain we thank you Lord (AMEN)
For our cereals and grain we thank you Lord (AMEN)
For our cereals and grain,
For the sun and for the rain
For our cereals and grain we thank you Lord. (AMEN)

For our yogurts, milk and cheese we thank you Lord (AMEN)
For our yogurts, milk and cheese we thank you Lord (AMEN)
For our yogurts, milk and cheese,
Lots of dairy food to please
For our yogurts, milk and cheese we thank you Lord. (AMEN)

For our fruit and veg and meat we thank you Lord (AMEN)
For our fruit and veg and meat we thank you Lord (AMEN)
For our fruit and veg and meat,
Lots of lovely things to eat
For our fruit and veg and meat we thank you Lord. (AMEN)

For desserts and sweets and pud we thank you Lord (AMEN)
For desserts and sweets and pud we thank you Lord (AMEN)
For desserts and sweets and pud,
Lots of food that tastes so good
For desserts and sweets and pud we thank you Lord (AMEN)

For the harvest that’s on show we thank you Lord (AMEN)
For the harvest that’s on show we thank you Lord (AMEN)
For the harvest that’s on show,
And for helping it to grow
For the harvest that’s on show we thank you Lord. (AMEN)

For our family and friends we thank you Lord (AMEN)
For our family and friends we thank you Lord (AMEN)
For our family and friends,
And for love that never ends
For our family and friends we thank you Lord. (AMEN)

To make this a little more visual you could hold up appropriate drawings or foods etc for each verse.
Also, the “amen”s are meant to be sung by someone else at the relevant point as the children hold their note on the word “Lord”
Just have fun with it and tweak it as you choose. I hope it contributes to a lovely Harvest festival/ Thanksgiving celebration.

Have you noticed my newly added shop?

I now sell a range of low priced, high quality (post)cards (with and without envelopes), bookmarks, posters (downloadable and actual) and canvases in my shop (click on the menu bar at the top of the page)
Whether you are looking for end of year classroom gifts (bookmarks), illustrated poem poems to create a poetic environment, an uplifting card for a friend, a unique but inexpensive personal gift, or pastoral cards for your church ministry, you will find something to suit.
My prices are deliberately low as I want the words to be shared, so I even offer a bulk buy discount when you buy 30 or more cards and/or bookmarks.

I thank God for giving you this talent of writing songs and poems for the special occasion of HARVEST, and for assisting me in my preparation for my own church harvest. Thank you so much, and may God continue to bless you.
